Skinny - a National Obsession

As a former anorexic, I get so mad when I see skinny models and actors on TV and in magazines. How can they expect us to look like that? I’ve tried, almost killed myself in the process, and still ended up with curves where I don’t want them. Women have been so brainwashed into believing that our bodies aren’t good enough. Same goes for men, but the attack on women is outrageous! Originally, the female body was most attractive when it was full and curvy. How did the human race get so fixated on skinny bodies?

This stupid concept of the perfect body makes people starve themselves. Some people get sick eating too much because it makes them feel better to eat (food releases “happy chemicals” in your brain). People commit suicide over not looking like they think they should. Did you know some people are so desperate that when they can’t afford to get cosmetic surgery, there have been cases of people trying to remove their own fat! I guess you can already imagine that it didn’t go well for those people. Though I fight so hard against this brainwashed drive for the perfect body, I lose and start looking at my round hips and soft belly with distain. Though you may fight, the drive for a good body has been imprinted in our brains since before birth. It’s a national obsession.

How many women really have the “ideal body?” Very few people naturally have a perfect body. Even thin women have things they hate about their bodies. So why do we insist on making probably 90% of the female population feel inadequate? That’s like setting women up for failure and dissatisfaction for their whole lives. Nobody can ever get the body they really want because that body image is unrealistic and unhealthy. A lot of skinny women can’t get pregnant. Do we want a world full of barren women? Why can’t we go back to having a healthy, natural image of the female body? We need to get healthy, real-looking models and actors. I’m sick of feeling like I’m not good enough; not meeting the world’s standards.

Perfect Woman.
Totally agree! And the main problem is that men don’t care about perfect body! I think that it’s (perfect body) just thing for women who has nothing else to do or think about! Be happy and confident, exercise sometime and eat healthy – this is enough for perfect woman.
